The Warren Burns Learning Series was established to offer experiences for personal renewal and Christian Growth.

STUDY SCRIPTURE. Provide a fresh approach to making the scripture accessible and relevant today.

EXPLORING PRAYER.  Finding ways to create an intentional enriching relationship through prayer.

What Do We Do Now?

revWellsJo Bailey Wells teaches Old Testament and biblical theology, particularly in relation to its contemporary relevance for ministry at Duke Divinity School. She also directs (and teaches in) Anglican Studies. The Anglican Episcopal House of Studiesis designed to meet both academic and formational interests of the growing number of Anglicans and Episcopalians who come to study at Duke.

Professor Wells' scholarly writing has focused on Old Testament theology. Her books include God's Holy People: A Theme in Biblical Theology (Sheffield, 2000) and Isaiah in the People's Bible Commentary series (BRF, 2006). She also enjoys devotional writing (for example, with Scripture Union, the College of Preachers and The Church Times), Seeking to bring the fruits of biblical scholarship to a wider audience within the Church.

She is a priest ordained in the first wave of women priests in the Church of England who has previously served as dean of Clare College as well as lecturer in Old Testament at Ridley Hall, both in Cambridge, UK.

revHawkinsPamela C. Hawkins, a United Methodist pastor, serves as managing editor of Weavings: A Journal of the Christian Spiritual Life (www.weavings.org). Prior to her work with Weavings, Pam served in local church and seminary settings, giving particular attention to spiritual life practices and to the spiritual care of clergy and lay leaders. She is the author of two books, The Awkward Season: Prayers for Lent and Simply Wait: Cultivating Stillness in the Season of Advent, both from Upper Room Books, and she was a contributor to Becoming a Praying Congregation(Abingdon). Her prayers and meditations have been published by several magazines and websites. She and her husband Ray live in Nashville, Tennessee.

Warren Trimble Burns (1937 - 2005) was a devoted teacher of the Pillars Sunday School class for 15 years at Galloway. Warren’s friends and former class members remember him for his thorough knowledge of the scriptures as well as being extraordinarily prepared to teach each Sunday.  Warren was a servant of God and for Galloway, he was one of the founders of the Stephen Ministry, of the UMC Methodist Cursillo, Co-taught Bethel Series and co-founder of the Wednesday Healing Service.  After his retirement from At&T he became Administrator of Galloway.  His love for teaching, coupled with his gentle and welcoming spirit helped Warren shepherd countless people in their spiritual walk.

HOME FELLOWSHIP MEETING

We will be hosting a Home Fellowship meeting for anyone who would like to get together for an evening to visit and discuss the upcoming event.  It should be a nice way to develop interest in the conference, as well as fellowship.
