Music Staff - Bob Knupp
Organist
Bob Knupp is a native of Johnstown, PA. His first interest in music came at the age of 10- mostly because he was trying to keep pace with his cousins. Five years later, after realizing that he hated memorizing music (as is required in piano performance), he decided to concentrate on the organ (which does NOT require memorization). Bob graduated from Susquehanna University in 1992 with a major in Church Music. He then pursued a Master of Music/Organ degree at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. While there he held his first position as a church organist at First Baptist Church, Goldboro NC.
Immediately after receiving his MM degree in 1994, he married Christine (the violin-playing CPA from Lancaster, PA). They moved to Montgomery, AL where Bob became a full-time Assistant Director of Music at Memorial Presbyterian Church. Feeling a strong call to full-time teaching, Bob began his DMA studies in 1996 at the University of Alabama under Warren Hutton. While studying at UA, he was also the Director of Music at Canterbury Chapel Episcopal Church – a “parish” church by day and a “student” church by night. While at Canterbury, Bob started an Arts Series, a Student Choir, and a Children’s Choir (with Christine). In 2001, Bob graduated from UA with a DMA in Organ.
Bob began his teaching career as an Assistant Professor of Music at Mississippi College in 2000, teaching applied organ, piano, and music theory. Teaching is his calling in life- he loves every long hour of practice, teaching and mentoring.
Bob’s professional credits include organ performances in fifteen states, including the Washington National Cathedral, appearances with several symphony orchestras, and two published articles. His students have placed high in state and regional competitions.
After being at Galloway United Methodist Church
for a full year, Bob says he is truly enjoying the
people and the worship life. Bob and Christine will have their first child in January, 2003. They have waited a long time and consider this event a great blessing from God. Bob, speaking for both of them, says “Christine and I are proud to say we are a part of the family of God that calls Galloway UMC its home”.
