Kim
Bourn is a native of Columbus, Miss., and has lived in the Jackson area
for six years. Having been a member of Galloway UMC since 2000, and
serving on the Children’s Team during that time, she became Director of
Children’s Ministry after several years in the accounting field. Her
area of ministry is newborn to sixth grade children.
Kim
felt called to this ministry in late 2005 after a series of
life-altering events. Earlier that year her beloved grandmother, Mary
Ann Moody (“Mimi”), suddenly passed away. In her grief, Kim re-thought
her life’s goals and decided to quit “playing it safe.” The first thing
she did was decide, unbelievably, to train for and run in a marathon.
Although she had never run more than a mile in her life, she began
training for the Chicago Marathon with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's
“Team In Training” program. Kim rose over $4000 for the society and in
the process, trained for, ran, and finished the Chicago Marathon in
October 2005.
That
accomplishment spilled over into her professional life when Galloway’s
Director of Children’s Ministries became open. Kim, with the
encouragement of Galloway’s former children’s director Cheryl Bowen,
again decided to step outside her comfort zone and “reach for the brass
ring.” A long-time Methodist, Kim brings a wealth of experience from
her volunteer work with children -- both inside and outside the church.
Kim
earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy from Mississippi State and is
an avid Bulldog fan. She and her husband of twelve years, Trey, have
two children, Austin, 10, and Cate, 3. In her spare time, Kim likes to
read, watch Austin’s sports activities, and attend MSU sporting events.
Of course, she also likes to train for and run in marathons.
