Chancel Choir
GALLOWAY ARTS
“The backbone of the music ministry” is a great description for the Chancel Choir. They faithfully rehearse on Wednesday nights from 6-8pm and sing weekly in worship on Sundays at 11am.
Concert Choir
The perfect choir for those who would enjoy making music with us, but are unable to sing in Chancel Choir each Sunday. Rehearsals are seasonal on Wednesday nights from 6 to 7pm.
Chancel Bells
Our adult handbell choir plays 4 to 5 octaves of bells and chimes, and performs in both worship and concerts.
Concordia Ensemble
This small ensemble of around 18-20 voices is conducted by Lynne Pickett and features acappella sacred choral repertoire. They perform a special annual concert each November that journey in scripture and music through the church year.
Children’s Choir
Ages 3- 5th grade are welcome to this fun music class each Sunday morning at 9:40 in the choir room. The choir sings occasionally in worship and concert, but focuses on training children to make music as a way to praise God.
Handbell Quartet
This is a quartet of ringers who play a 3 octave set of bells as an added dimension of the use of Handbells in worship and concert.
Bluegrass String Band
If you play guitar or another stringed instrument in a folk/bluegrass style, you may enjoy the informal music-making fellowship of this group. They generally…?
The Pipe Organ
The 65-rank four-manual pipe organ is one of the finest in the state of Mississippi. Built by Casavant Freres Inc. in Canada, the organ was installed at Galloway in 1995, funded in large part by a gift from Selby and Richard McRae, and has served as a pillar of our music ministry for thirty years.
The organ contains thousands of pipes behind the cross and curtains that aren't visible. They range in size from 16 feet in length to the length of a pencil. The organ is like an orchestra, with pipes of many shapes and sizes providing colorful sounds of tremendous variety. There is no other instrument that accompanies the singing of congregational hymns as well as a pipe organ, and none other so versatile in terms of its ability to sensitively and colorfully accompany our choirs, soloists, and other ensembles as needed.
In addition to accompanying, this fine concert instrument beautifully renders the solo organ repertoire from before the time of Bach to the present day. Some of the greatest organists in North America and Europe have performed on this organ. We are moved, thrilled, and touched by the many musical moments evoked from this instrument in weekly worship, seasonal concerts, and during our advent and lenten lunchtime organ recitals.
